About

This website is created by the Information Commons in Abu Dhabi Women's College for students in the City and Khalifa campuses who are studying for IELTS.

Who am I? I was born in Scotland in 1956. My father was a farmer and my mother a nurse, so I was brought up on dairy farms with fresh milk every day and got excellent medical attention when I was hurt! In 1970 my family moved to Western Australia where we grew wheat and sheep.
I attended the university of Western Australia and studied History and Politics as my major subjects. I also studied law, philosophy, accounting, psychology and anthropology. After that I studied teaching then got my first teaching job in Zimbabwe. I taught English, History and Biology to high school students that really wanted to study. It was a great way to start a teaching career! I also taught in Australian high schools.

Then I decided I wanted to travel to meet new people and see new sights. This needed a career change so I became an English language teacher and I taught in Hungary for 4 years and Japan for the same number of years. I've also taught in Paris and Riyadh. I arrived in Abu Dhabi in 2003. I have a great wife, Andrea, and 2 wonderful children - Robi (born in 2005) and Sylvia (born in 2003).
